Another wonderful discovery via the great french website Catsuka : a short animation film named "Fragments", directed by Hugo Bravo, a former student of french animation and illustration school Emile Cohl, and produced by the studio Kawanimation located in Paris.
The rendering is really original and surprising, with a mix of animation and photography (or maybe video ?). The pictures are very graphic and dynamic, and the universe, very minimalistic, give the movie a very specific identity.

Fragments, short animation film by Hugo Bravo produced by Kawanimation
Eaux Fortes, directed by Rémi Chayé
I wrote some days ago an article about "Longway North", an upcoming animation movie directed by Rémi Chayé (here). I discovered via the very good website Catsuka another short animation film directed by the same director in 2005, when he was studying in the french animation scholl La Poudrière. Called "Eaux Fortes", the very poetic short film shows a young man caught by a tsunami. As in "Longway North" we find the same graphic universe, with a lot of soft colors tinted areas, but the lines are more rough.
Longway north by Rémi Chayé
Longway North is a full-length animation movie, still in production, directed by Rémi Chayé and produced by Sacrebleu Productions. The story takes place in 19th century Russia, where a young lady decides to join her grandfather, lost near the north pole. A great animation work, with an original graphic look. The trailer make you want to see the full movie !
Music video : Somebody That I Used to know by Gotye directed by Natasha Pincus
A short article to share with you this music video for the song "Somebody That I Use To Know" by the australian artist Gotye. Directed by Natasha Pincus through Starkraving, her production company, the video shows the two singers in a symbolic staging mixing up bodypainting and stop motion. I think that the pictures fit very well with the song, with a strong identity but a lot of poetry. Enjoy :)
Art direction by Marek Okon
Born in Poland, Marek Okon studied in Toronto, Canada, before leaving for Japan in order to work as an Art Director for Wieden+Kennedy Tokyo. He works for a wide range of clients, and his special interest for motion graphics and digital design allow him to work on video projects as well as illustrations or print design. A very original graphic language, with a lot of varied influences giving it a great visual richness.
Since... a motion design greeting card by Arnaud Laffond and Cyril Calgaro
A beautiful surprise fell into my mailbox yesterday, directly sent by Arnaud Laffond, one of the two directors of this motion design. To wish a happy new year 2012, Arnaud Laffond and Cyril Calgaro looked over the history of communication media in a great motion design video, with a really nice animation work.
